182nd Psi Upsilon Convention and 2026 Leadership Institute
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at Convention and the Leadership Institute?
The Psi Upsilon Convention brings together brothers of every generation, from chapters across the country and around the world, in the truest expression of our fraternal bond. Psi Upsilon made history in 1841 as the first fraternity to convene all of its chapters, and today the Convention serves as both the legislative body of the fraternity and the annual meeting of its members. Delegates consider amendments to the Psi Upsilon Constitution, elect members of the Executive Council, review the work of the Executive Council and International Office, and approve Chapter Awards. Depending on the year, this work is conducted through committees that convene on-site or prepared in advance for ratification at Convention.
The Leadership Institute runs concurrently with the Convention, with programming shaped each year by the priorities and feedback of our chapters. Past sessions have addressed recruitment, social excellence, mental health, bystander intervention, organizational leadership, and community service, offering meaningful development opportunities for undergraduates and alumni alike.
Evenings are reserved for fellowship — receptions and gatherings that bring attendees together with local alumni and forge connections that endure long after the weekend ends.
Who can attend Convention?
Every brother is welcome, regardless of how recently or how often you have engaged with the fraternity. Whether you are a seasoned alumni advisor, a newly initiated undergraduate, or a brother reconnecting after years away, Convention offers a weekend of meaningful exchange with brothers from chapters and walks of life beyond your own. If Psi Upsilon matters to you, you will find your place here.
The business sessions and Leadership Institute are reserved for members of the fraternity, but spouses and significant others are warmly invited to join the evening events and meals.
The 2026 Leadership Institute will be an interactive program that moves between plenary and small-group settings, giving alumni dedicated time with undergraduates from their own chapter — and from others — to set shared goals for the fall semester.
When should I plan to arrive?
Members of the Executive Council and the Foundation Board of Directors should plan to arrive Thursday evening, as both bodies convene on Friday morning. Convention delegates should be on-site for the opening session, which begins Friday at 4:00 PM. If you are flying into Ann Arbor (we recommend the Detroit Airport), we recommend booking a flight that lands before noon to allow ample time to reach the hotel, check in, and change before the program begins.
I only want to attend certain events, do I have to register for everything?
If you wish to attend only the social events and forgo the business sessions and Leadership Institute, you may register accordingly by selecting the “Single Event Option” on the Registration page. Participation in the Leadership Institute, General Sessions, and the full Convention experience requires complete registration.
Who should the chapter send to Convention as its delegates?
The Constitution requires two (2) undergraduate delegates and one (1) alumni delegate from every chapter but leaves the selection of those brothers to the discretion of the chapter and its alumni association. We encourage you to choose deliberately: delegates carry the voice of your chapter and help shape decisions that affect the entire fraternity. When multiple alumni from a single chapter register, we confirm with the alumni association president which brother will serve as the voting delegate.
What is the Undergraduate Advisory Board (UAB)?
The Undergraduate Advisory Board (UAB) are two delegates who are elected by the chapters to attend Executive Council meetings for the academic year. They serve as a liaison between the undergraduate members and report to the Archons about the work of the Executive Council as well as serve as a voice of the undergraduate body at meetings. They are invited to participate in committees and other Town Hall events.
The UAB can be a great opportunity to get more involved with Psi Upsilon at an international level and be a part of the important decision-making that directs our fraternity.
What does the Chapter Service Fee cover?
The Chapter Service Fee covers a shared hotel room for Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 (departing Sunday, July 19), along with Convention registration for the chapter’s two undergraduate delegates. Staff will book the room on the chapter’s behalf; delegates need only present a credit card at check-in to cover incidentals. The fee does not include travel, additional hotel nights, or any out-of-pocket meals or activities beyond those provided as part of the Convention program.
Why was Ann Arbor chosen as the Convention Location?
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the Phi Chapter House, originally opened in 1926. Throughout the weekend, we will celebrate the chapter’s distinctive history and its enduring place on the University of Michigan campus. Convention is traditionally hosted by a chapter marking a significant milestone, and host chapters frequently use the occasion as a fundraising and engagement opportunity for their alumni associations.
Is there anything else going on in Ann Arbor the weekend of Convention?
Indeed. The Convention coincides with the Original Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, held at Ingalls Mall just blocks from the Convention hotel. The fair gathers local, national, and international artists and transforms downtown Ann Arbor into an expansive open-air gallery — a memorable addition to your weekend.
