On Saturday, April 23rd, the Phi Beta Alumni Association initiated sixteen new members to the Undergraduate Chapter as we continue our return to the College of William and Mary. Currently an Owl Club, a term used for an undergraduate chapter returning to full chapter status, the chapter successfully petitioned the campus IFC and became a recognized organization in the Fall.
After some years of dormancy, the Alumni Association of the Phi Beta became re-invigorated thanks to Steve McCleaf, Phi Beta ’89, Christian Klein, Phi Beta ’92 and several other brothers. In the Fall of 2019, an opportunity to work with a group of undergraduates arose and we were positioned well to support them thanks to the alumni association. The pandemic did cause the return to be slower than we hoped it would be, last Spring the alumni initiated four brothers who were graduating, but wanted to see a larger number before they initiated the entire chapter. The alumni partnered with Phired Up to provide additional recruitment coaching which helped lead to a successful Spring recruitment period.
This initiation was held in the Wren Chapel on campus, where the chapter was originally installed 38 years ago on April 14, 1984. You can read about the original chartering of the chapter at psiuarchives.org.
If you know of any potential members attending William and Mary, or any campus with a Psi U Chapter, please be sure to send us their information using our “Recommend a Brother” form.
