After getting his PhD in Biology, Adam Boyko founded Embark, a company which uses genetic testing to give pet owners Information that may improve or extend their pet’s life.

In the course of their quest to understand the domestic dog, Embark’s founders have discovered many of the things that make every breed and every individual dog unique. Their pioneering work revealed an origin of the domestic dog near Central Asia over 15,000 years ago and the history of dog populations around the globe.

Adam’s lab has also uncovered the genetic basis for many dog diseases and traits. While they have enjoyed working in remote corners of the world and in the lab, Adam and Ryan have always wanted to share their work and improve the lives of pet dogs everywhere. Partnering with the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, the leading veterinary school in the country, and Spencer Wells, a pioneer in consumer genetics, they founded Embark to bring cutting-edge science and insights directly onto your phone and desktop.

9.20.2020 – Love, Mom & Dad: Turning tragedy into progress

Sunday, September 20, 7:00 p.m. Eastern

The Anti-Hazing Coalition will host a live nationwide presentation and discussion to kick off  HazingPrevention.Org’s National Hazing Prevention Week on Sunday, September 20 at 7 p.m. Eastern. (Live captioning available.)

As many campuses have moved away from in-person experiences this fall, the AHC wants to ensure students receive hazing prevention education. The AHC parents will present a program streamed live on social media to share their sons’ stories and educate current students about hazing prevention. The program will include Q&A with the parents.

These families each suffered unimaginable loss as a result of fraternity hazing. They are here to share their stories and to challenge ALL fraternity/sorority members to take up the fight to end hazing now. If we are not actively part of solving this problem, then we are responsible for its continued persistence. Whether you’ve been hazed, know that hazing is happening on your campus, or even if you’ve hazed one of your members in the past, we must all actively take part in this solving this problem so that no family has to endure this kind of tragedy. Let’s be the generation of fraternity and sorority members who end hazing once and for all.

Parents currently participating in the program:

  • Deb Debrick, her son Dalton died after a hazing incident at Texas Tech University
  • Steve and Rae Ann Gruver, their son Max died after a hazing incident at Louisiana State University
  • Lianne Kowiak, her son Harrison died after a hazing incident at Lenoir-Rhyne University
  • Jim and Evelyn Piazza, their son Tim died after a hazing incident at Penn State University
  • Kathleen Wiant, her son Collin died after a hazing incident at Ohio University

THIS IS A FREE EVENT AND OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS/ADVISORS/COACHES.

If you have questions, please email Todd Shelton.

The Anti-Hazing Coalition includes families of hazing victims who partner with North American Interfraternity Association (NIC), National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV), HazingPrevention.Org, Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors and other organizations committed to eradicating hazing.
