2024 Leadership Institute & Speakers

The Leadership Institute takes up the majority of our programming on Sunday, and covers a variety of topics that are of interest to both undergraduate and alumni members of our fraternity. Sessions in 2024 include:

Project Adventure

The 2024 Psi Upsilon Leadership Institute will be a day-long event coordinated by Project Adventure, http://www.pa.org. It will take place at its national headquarters, picturesque Moraine Farm, located in Beverly, MA. The Frederick Law Olmsted‑designed campus provides an unforgettable setting for the Leadership Institute.

The 2024 Leadership Institute will include experiential education, or learning by doing, including programs that emphasize community and group‑building techniques.

Participants will improve developmental skills such as:

    * Personal and group responsibility

    * Self‑discovery and relationship building

    * Communication and collaboration

    * Problem solving

    * Respect for oneself and others

A Challenge Course will provide participants an opportunity to go beyond their pre‑conceived limitations. We will engage in a series of activities to promote the individual abilities of each participant. Individual and group success is achieved through peer support and encouragement, not physical strength.

While a significant portion of the program involves team building, the focus of the Challenge Course portion is individual achievement with group support.

    * The exhilaration of challenging oneself

    * The improvement of self‑esteem and confidence

    * The accomplishment of well‑made goals

    * The safety of supportive environment

    * The opportunity to practice appropriate choice‑making

The Leadership Institute’s activities, games, and initiatives are designed for learning and fun. Using “props”—fleece balls, tossable stuffed animals, blindfolds, beach balls, and other tested problem‑solving kits—these activities give participants the chance to experience the positive benefits of working with others.

    * The valuing of each members input to building community

    * The importance of having fun and group cohesion

    * The development of a support network

    * The enjoyment of appropriate competition and cooperative play

    * The opportunity to practice working towards goals

History and Archives Committee

The History and Archives Committee was created in 2020 to better research and highlight Psi Upsilon’s stories. Each year the committee picks a topic to research and present at Convention to give attendees a glimpse at our history and discuss the brothers who help make our fraternity special.

Engagement and Technology

Fraternity and Foundation Leadership will review ways to engage with Psi Upsilon on the national level including programs like the speaker series and history and archives committee, publications and useful technology for chapters like MemberPlanet, Crowd Change, and more!

Risk Management Review

It’s important that every chapter knows and understands our Risk Management Policy. We’ll review the policy and talk about some best practices that chapters apply to comply with it. We will utilize examples directly from our experiences with chapters, as well as discuss trends we’re seeing in Higher Education.
