August 2025 – Convention Edition

The 181st Psi Upsilon Convention convened July 24–27, 2025 at Syracuse University, bringing together over 150 undergraduate brothers and alumni from 27 chapters across North America for four days of fellowship, governance, and strategic education. In honor of the Pi Chapter’s 150th anniversary, attendees toured the historic chapter house, explored campus landmarks like the Hall of Languages, and engaged in business sessions that set the fraternity’s course for the year ahead. Social events ranged from catering by Dinosaur BBQ to an evening at a Syracuse Mets game, offering brothers ample opportunity to connect, celebrate tradition, and immerse themselves in the spirit of Syracuse University and the Pi Chapter!

Thank you to our great hosts from the Pi Chapter who made this weekend possible. You can view photos from the convention here.

The 2025 Leadership Institute Curriculum

The 2025 Psi Upsilon Leadership Institute convened undergraduate and alumni members at Syracuse University’s Hall of Languages for a day of recruitment coaching, historical reflection, and peer-driven dialogue. Jonah Mudse of Phired Up Productions opened with a keynote that reframed chapter growth as a lasting legacy, followed by program reviews of the fraternity and foundation and the History and Archives Committee. After lunch, attendees split into three rounds of facilitated roundtables—undergraduates exploring recruitment pipelines, brotherhood programming, service initiatives, and retention strategies, and alumni tackling fundraising, advisory-board structures, and crisis response. 181st Convention Awards Banquet

At our annual Convention, the Awards Banquet remains a cornerstone event for honoring the exceptional contributions of both individuals and chapters to Psi Upsilon. This year’s Outstanding Junior Award recipients were Max Beldotti, Pi ’26, (Syracuse) and Carlos Sanchez, Gamma Tau ’26, (Georgia Tech), while the Griffin Award for Senior Excellence was presented to Alex Godwin, Psi ’25, (Hamilton) and Nori Melville, Epsilon Iota ’25, (RPI). We also introduced the Emerging Leader Award to recognize young alumni making a significant impact to our fraternity: Madison Turkette, Delta Omicron ’19, (Purdue) and Joey Cobau, Phi ’21, (Michigan). Our long-serving advisors—Bob Correll, Epsilon Iota ’82, (RPI), Jim Cornacchia, Pi ’86 (Syracuse), and Mat Ross, Pi ’86 (Syracuse)—were celebrated with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award for their steadfast dedication to their chapters and Psi U.

The keynote address was delivered by Tom O’Brien, Pi ’83 (Syracuse), President of The Weather Group, who encouraged undergraduates to embrace leadership opportunities by “taking a chance on leading” and shared how his friendships made in the fraternity are still strong and helped shape his calling. In recognition of his exemplary career and unwavering commitment to our fraternity’s mission, he received the David A.B. Brown, ΕΦ ’66 Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Like all convention banquets there were toasts, singing and even a surprise gift to the Pi Chapter. Read more about the evening celebration here.
