8.21.25 – Gin! Craft Beverage Distillation Discussion with Madrona Distilling by Tom Allan, Theta Theta ’89 (Washington) Psi U Summer Hospitality Virtual Speaker Series

Thomas T. Allan IV, Theta Theta ’89 (University of Washington) is passionate about Gin. Madrona Distillery is his gin-focused spirits producer located in Redmond, Washington.

Tom began building the business three years ago and opened our doors in February of 2024.  To date they have accumulated 7 international awards including 5 gold medals.  Product sales channels include our tasting room, direct distribution and a regional wholesaler. Tom started his passion project in 2024 by introducing small batch Dry Gin and Vodka in early 2024. Garden Club Gin, Barrel Reserve Gin, and Prayer Bottle Rum have since joined the lineup.
The business is wholly owned by Tom Allan and his wife Anne.  The name Madrona honors the beautiful red-barked trees that line the shores of their favorite sailing destination, The San Juan Islands of northwest Washington.  Some of the botanicals used in production are harvested from their home on Orcas Island.  Tom served as the 23rd president of the Executive Council of Psi Upsilon Fraternity

11.04.25 – United States of Adventure with Founders Bradford Holladay, Lambda Sigma ‘22, Will Soiland, Lambda Sigma ‘21 and grant recipients

The mission of United States of Adventure is to strengthen our communities by transforming young Americans into global citizens through self-directed international journeys.

Bradford writes “The Spanish I learned abroad became central to my career working with immigrant communities in Nashville through the Boy Scouts of America, even giving me the skills to establish the first Spanish-speaking Scout Troop in the city. I experienced firsthand how intercultural education at a young age creates leaders, problem solvers, and people who aren’t afraid to step into the unknown.  “

Will writes “I believe that true international travel, when done deeply and intentionally, is one of the most transformative experiences a young person can have. It fosters independence, adaptability, and, most importantly, leadership. My lifelong mission is to ensure this program continues to grow and thrive long after me, inspiring generations of young Americans to discover the world in order to discover themselves.”
