Why Psi Upsilon?

Starting a Fraternity on your campus: The Founding Father Experience

Starting a fraternity can be a rewarding experience, but it requires careful planning, hard work, and dedication. Those who take on the challenge of starting a fraternity chapter also tend to be those who get the most out of their fraternity experience across a lifetime as they often stay engaged with their chapter post-graduation and connect with the national organization more deeply.

Here are some steps to help you get started:

  1. Identify your purpose and values: What do you want your fraternity to stand for? What kind of activities do you want to engage in? What values do you want to promote among your members? Do they align with Psi Upsilon Purpose and Values?
  2. Recruit members: Start by recruiting a group of like-minded individuals who share your vision for the fraternity. Reach out to friends, classmates, and other potential members who may be interested in joining.
  3. If you align with Psi Upsilon’s Mission and Values send us some basic information to get started, and schedule a meeting with the Director of Growth, or call or text 317-805-1056
  4. Register your organization: Depending on the policies of your institution, you may need to register your fraternity as a student organization. Check with your Greek Life or Student Activities Office to determine what steps you need to take. We’re also happy to engage in these discussions with you.
  5. Secure a meeting place: Identify a location where your fraternity can meet in private and on a regular basis. While this could be a member’s home, we highly recommend using a room centrally located on your campus.
  6. Plan events and activities: Organize events and activities that align with Psi Upsilon’s Mission and Values. This could include community service projects, social events, and educational programs.
  7. Build a strong organizational structure: Establish positions and responsibilities for your fraternity’s officers and members. Develop a plan for recruiting new members, managing finances, and making important decisions.
  8. Network with other organizations: Build relationships with other fraternities, sororities, and student organizations on your campus. This will help you to grow your network, collaborate on events, and gain visibility on campus.

The Benefits of a Fraternity Experience

Research proves that fraternities foster positive mental health, serve as a success accelerator for students, and engender tremendous loyalty and connection among alumni to support their alma mater.

Students spend 90% of their time outside the classroom. Fraternities capitalize on those hours by preparing students for success in college and in their futures far beyond what their peers experience. At Psi Upsilon we’re proud of the programs and network we’ve created to support our members and build an International Organization that is positively affecting those around it.
